Scholarship Success – From Classroom to Career
Meet Kavitha, a 19-year-old from Kilinochchi. Her father, a fisherman, struggled to rebuild after the war and repeated coastal floods.
With three children to support, university education seemed like an unreachable dream.
Through the Society’s Scholarship Fund, supported by contributions from the Tamil diaspora, Kavitha received:

Tuition support for her first year at the University of Jaffna (Engineering Faculty).

A monthly allowance for books, meals, and travel.

Mentorship sessions with diaspora professionals in her field.
“I always believed I had the ability, but not the means. This scholarship didn’t just give me money — it gave me confidence. It told me that my community believes in me,” says Kavitha.
Women’s Cooperative – Strength in Unity, Power in Progress
In Batticaloa, Selvi, a widowed mother of three, once depended on daily wage labor that barely covered food expenses.
Today, she leads a group of 25 women in a cooperative specializing in handmade food products and spice packaging.
Through training and start-up support from the Society, the cooperative received:

A small grant to purchase equipment for grinding, packaging, and labeling.

Training sessions on financial literacy, marketing, and quality control.

Access to a microfinance pool, reducing dependence on predatory lenders.
“Before, I worked for survival. Now, I work for growth. We are not just earning — we are building a future for our children,” says Selvi proudly.
Green Farming Project – Sustainable Land, Sustainable Lives
In Mullaitivu, Mr. Arumugam, a 52-year-old farmer, once relied heavily on chemical fertilizers that left his soil depleted and yields unstable.
With support from the Green Farming Project, he shifted to organic paddy cultivation using composting, bio-fertilizers, and solar-powered irrigation.
Through the initiative, farmers like Arumugam received:

Training workshops on organic farming and sustainable water use.

Solar-powered irrigation systems to reduce dependency on diesel pumps.

Access to a collective farmers’ market, connecting them with buyers who pay fair prices for organic produce.
“Now my land is alive again. I spend less on chemicals, earn more from my crops, and my children eat food that is safe and healthy,” says Arumugam with pride.
